Frequently Asked Questions

Are the automated systems reliable? What if the automated system doesn't work?

Reliability is a tremendous concern, especially in live news where time is critical and there are no second chances. Our own old school engineers were skeptical at first, thinking automated systems couldn't be as reliable or accurate as they were. Now they are the biggest supporters of automation. Why?

  • QuickSPOT systems start with top quality, well known manufacturers you know and trust. Manufacturers such as Wavestream, AVL, Fujitsu, Cisco.
  • Extensive field testing under harsh conditions has proven the durability and reliability of the mobile systems. After over 7 years and 250+ systems in the field we can say with confidence that the automated systems are no more likely to fail than manual systems and can report that our own experience has shownvery very few problems which aren't related to operator error.
  • If a problem should occur On Call's technical support team is available to assist you 24/7/365 with any questions, troubleshooting or concerns related to hardware or satellite service. We know in live news that problems need to be addressed quickly and our team is available for immediate support. You'll develop relationships with your support team who will familiarize themselves with your operations. Tier 2 and Tier 3 support are available 24/7.

Can I get the IP features and transmit video over DVB?

Almost. QuickSPOT systems are now available with a DVB transmission option as well. You can enjoy all the features of IP systems and have the option to switch to DVB when necessary. However, you will need to choose whether you want to operate DVB or IP.

Is IP as reliable as DVB for video?

Great question. Internet Protocol (IP) frequently gets a bad rap because people associate IP with the unstable Internet connections they experience at their home and office.  IP is just another method of packaging information for transmission and is no more or less reliable that DVB, ASI or other transmission protocols. What matters is the quality of the link. On Call gives you private, dedicated satellite space which means unlike public or shared internet connections there is never any problem with network congestion which can disrupt your video transmission.

How can you help me meet my budget needs?

We understand that you want new equipment and so we have come up with lots of ways to make sure you can get the equipment you need with the financing plan that makes sense for your situation. We offer long term rentals, leases and equipment financing plans; whether you need a plan that fits your operational budget or your capital expense budget, we can accomodate your needs.

Bandwidth can be purchased only as you need it with no minimum commitments or you can opt for a monthly package with volume pricing.
